Windows 10’s world domination plans start with it being a free upgrade

Windows 10 free upgrade

Microsoft are dropping all sorts of knowledge bombs today, during the Windows 10 event, where it’s showing off its new number jumping OS. And the first big one is that Microsoft is going to ease users into the new OS by making upgrading a lot more attractive.

For the first year, upgrading to Windows 10 will be free.

I am slow to change. I’m only using Windows 8.1 at the moment because it came with my new laptop. My desktop is still running Windows 7, and just over two years ago, I was still using Windows XP. Frankly, I’m cheap, and Windows operating systems are not.

But for a year after its release, Windows 10 will be free for all Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 users. And making it a free upgrade for a year, rather than just at launch, will give us all time to wait for it to improve. That’s a good thing if it’s anything like Windows 8 was when it first popped into existence.

Is this going to encourage you to upgrade?
