Winter is coming, along with Pillars of Eternity

Pillars of Eternity coming winter 2014

Last week we told you that Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian’s crowdfunded RPG, wouldn’t be appearing until somewhere in the second half of 2014. And do you know what else is happening in the second half of 2014? Winter. So that happens every year, big whoop, but this winter will go on for an eternity. God, I’m clever.

Yes, Pillars of Eternity’s launch window has been narrowed down, though it’s still still vague, to winter 2014.

“[W]e wanted to officially update everyone that we are looking good to release Eternity by Winter 2014,” said producer Rose Gomez in a forum update. “So, look forward to getting your hands on Pillars of Eternity later this year.”

Despite not counting patience as one of my many, many virtues, I say take as long as you bloody well need, Obsidian. You don’t rush an epic RPG, especially not one that’s a spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate. And to avoid any more delays, Obsidian has decided that it’s working on enough stretch goals, so no more will be pursued.

Backer folk, you’ll have to wait a little less. Damn you and your loose wallets. Pillars of Eternity is in alpha at the moment, but at some point during the beta phase portions of the game will be made available to backers for the purposes of fiddling about with cool things while the rest of us wait. Bastards.

Cheers, Eurogamer.
