Wolfenstein: The New Order is out now; here’s our Wolfenstein: The New Order review.

In an alternate 1960s the world was dominated by giant Nazi robot dogs. Sounds a pretty hellish place to be, and Wolfenstein: The New Order is going to make sure you know it, provided you play on the highest difficulty level. Machine Games’ senior gameplay designer Andreas Ojerfors says of the toughest option – called I Am Death Incarnate – “You will cry blood”.

Talking to GameSpot, Ojerfors explained that The New Order has been designed with a great challenge at its core, and will offer up five different levels of difficulty, just as the original game did back in the day.

“We want it to be a real, real challenge for people. This is not an easy game,” Ojerfors said. “Of course we have the five difficulty levels of the original Wolfenstein 3D, like everything from Daddy Can I Play? to I Am Death Incarnate. So you can turn it down or turn it up if you want to. But like the default, normal setting of the game, it’s going to be a challenging experience.”

Whilst Wolfenstein will be punishing, the challenge will always be a fair one. “It’s difficult, but it’s always fair. You’re never really cheated. It’s always your fault if you die.” explained Ojerfors.

Wolfenstein: The New Order launches later this year, and you should totally be interested in it because it’s (probably) the only game you’ll be able to draw wangs using a laser in.
