Beef up your World of Tanks experience with some historically accurate booms and bangs

Boom boom boom, let me hear you say “Looks like that one went right through!” While I’ll admit that’s not such a catchy tune, I’m all for making World of Tanks a bit louder and and a bit meaner. Maybe you’re like I used to be, maybe you think World of Tanks’ sound effects are just fine as they are. I think that, once you install this mod, you’ll really appreciate the difference it makes.

The mod is called GnomeFather’s Historical Gun Sounds and this is what it does to your World of Tanks experience:

Isn’t that lovely, those distant, echoing sounds of gunfire, the whizz of shells and the sudden and cruel clank of a round striking your vehicle dead-on? The noises aren’t necessarily deeper or louder, but they’re much more authentic and have a wonderful sense of dymanics to them.

You can grab the mod from the official forums here and it’s dead easy to install. All you need to do is rummage in your World of Tanks folder and copy the “audio” folder called “World_of_Tanks\res” to “World_of_Tanks\res_mods\0.8.1” If you’ve never installed a mod before, this will be empty but for a readme file.

Then you can unzip the mod (which is a cool 25 meg) into “World_of_Tanks\res_mods\0.8.1” and let it overwrite the files it wants to. This ensures the mod keeps the original sounds it’s still going to use, such as ambient effects and engine rumble, but also adds in those new sound files.

Then all you need to do is get out there and start shooting. Enjoy the brassy clink of the reload effect.
