As a way of giving back to the groups behind software which has made World of Tanks possible, developer Wargaming.net has announced plans to fund foundations which support open-source development.

Three foundations to receive funding were named by the developer: Linux Software, Django Software, and Wikimedia.

“Wargaming relies heavily on a number of different open-source technologies to help us create our legendary MMO universe, whether it’s using Linux to power our servers, Django to build our web project frameworks or Wikimedia to help us in our research efforts,” said Maksim Melnikau, Solution Architect at Wargaming, in the press release fired into our offices via Wargaming’s traditional mortar strike. “As a company, we’d like to say thank you to all the developers, testers and users who’ve helped create these awesome tools and that we’re extremely honored to hopefully help them continue their great work moving into the future.”

It’s excellent to see a developer feeding back into the community which made its work possible, particularly if that will foster continuing developments in that group.

We’ve contacted Wargaming for further details about their support for the foundations.
