About us

Here are all the details you need on pitching to PCGamesN, advertising with us, and joining the Publisher Collective website network.

We’re always looking out for great stories, op-eds, guides, and features for the biggest and best games on PC. We’re especially interested in promoting underrepresented voices from a diverse range of backgrounds.

How to pitch us

Features and Reviews

Cameron is always happy to meet new freelancers, receive feature pitches, or discuss anything not covered below. When it comes to features, we’re looking for interviews with key developers, op-eds about the biggest PC games, and deep dives into communities or the issues they care about. If in doubt, pitch us anyway. We tend to cover triple-A, big-budget releases, as well as old-school PC classics, and contemporary PC games with passionate, deeply engaged playerbases, whether that’s an indie breakout or a long-running hobby game like League of Legends. A good rule of thumb is to check Steam’s most-played games stats – we’re likely to be interested in anything near the top.

Guides

Our guides team rallies around the biggest PC launches, from indie games storming the Steam charts to triple-A titans like the latest Call of Duty or WoW expansion. We also cover a number of games-as-a-service, like Destiny 2, Fortnite, and Genshin Impact, so pitches on those are welcome, too. If you have any supporting SEO research then please include this in the pitch.

Hardware

Reach out to hardware editor Ben for any tech related pitches. We’re looking for unique insights into the biggest hardware developments, whether that’s about the big three (Intel, AMD, or Nvidia), Valve’s Steam Deck, or trendsetters like Razer. We’re also hungry for guides, so hit us up if you’re an expert at setting things up, taking them apart, or making them as efficient as possible. While they’re not strictly hardware, Windows, SteamOS, and VPNs are key beats for us, too.

News

News editor Lauren is the person to contact if you’ve got a tip, would like to request corrections to news, or to pitch a longer-form news story or investigative piece. If you’d like to volunteer for shift work covering breaking news, you can do so, but note that given the nature of this work we already have standing agreements with our regular news freelancers and are only likely to need support on an emergency basis.

Underrepresented backgrounds

We’re always looking to increase the visibility of underrepresented voices within our editorial output. We care deeply about diversity and inclusion and want to take an active stance against racism, bigotry, and injustice. We have an additional editorial freelance budget that’s reserved for commissioning content from writers of BIPOC, LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, and other underrepresented backgrounds, so please don’t hesitate to pitch us.

We invite your ideas across all of our usual editorial output (see the pitching tips below), and, should you wish to, you are also welcome to pitch us about your personal experiences of gaming as a writer from a less-represented community; we want to increase diversity not only in the writers we commission, but also in the content we publish.

Pitching tips

Got an idea? Here’s how to best capture our interest.

Lead with the headline
Whatever your pitch is, at some point it’s going to need a headline that captures its essence in a digestible, appealing way. Lead with a great headline and it’s much easier for us to understand what makes it attractive. This also tells us that you’ve already got the conclusion in mind, so we know you’re presenting a complete argument.

One pitch at a time
You might have a lot of great ideas, but we want your best and most complete idea. A concise summary paragraph that tells us what topics and angles you’re going to talk about is ideal.

Word counts and turnaround
Alongside your pitch, we’d appreciate it if you told us what kind of turnaround and word count you have in mind for the piece. Carefully consider the word count, because while we’re open to long-form articles, we always prefer a concise, purposeful piece.

Previous experience?
If you’ve got links to relevant articles you’ve written then we’d love it if you include those with the pitch. We’re also very happy to work with new writers, so don’t hesitate to pitch if that’s you. If you currently don’t have any published work or a portfolio to send us, please provide a sample paragraph in the style of one of our guides or features.

Tell us what you’re playing
We’re interested in covering a ton of different games and genres, so if you’re getting in touch with us for the first time then please let us know what your specialities and current games are. You never know what expertise we might be on the lookout for.
