Versus Evil’s Afro Samurai 2 has been cancelled, with further installments of the episodic game canned and the first episode pulled from Steam entirely. It’s all down to the game being, well, a bit rubbish really. Because of all the negative press, Versus Evil have decided to stop development.
“The game was a failure,” said Versis Evil’s general manager Steve Escalante in an interview with CGM. “We could not do, in good conscience, volume two and volume three. So we’ve begun the process – it’s been a long process to figure it out because Sony has never really had to do this in this way – but we’re returning all the money. So across the board we’re putting out an apology saying ‘sorry about this.’
“If you look at the reviews, it wasn’t that the game was broken or buggy, people just didn’t like it,” said Escalante.
That’s an unusually frank statement from a developer, but it’s reassuring to know that they’re doing their best to make up for mistakes. The statement refers to the PlayStation 4 edition of the game and the Sony refunds system, and so far no official announcements have been made on Steam regarding the PC version. Hopefully a Steam Refund will soon be available to anyone who picked up the game. For now, the purchase button on the Steam store page is disabled.
Thanks, PC Gamer.
