Age of Conan developer is making a survival game set in the Conan universe

Conan Exiles

There just aren’t enough open-world survival games these days. Like the 3D platformer, it’s a forgotten genre, lost to the… Actually, scratch that – I’m talking bollocks. There are bloody loads of open-world survival games, and we’re about to get another one, this time set in the Conan universe. Yay?

Like I just said, there are loads of games in the survival genre these days, and the decent ones made their way into PCGamesN’s list of the best survival games on PC.

Titled Conan Exiles, Funcom says the game is “first and foremost a multiplayer game that can be enjoyed on both private and public servers” but it will also be playable offline, where presumably it will be the same but without the griefing.

“There is no better setting for an open-world survival game than the world of Conan,” said creative director Joel Bylos, but he would say that. “Hyboria is a harsh and unforgiving land where only the strongest can survive while the weak are swiftly cut down.

“Whether it is hunting animals for food, fighting monsters and other players, or building entire settlements, we want to make sure players feel like they are really fighting to survive and prosper in the most brutal fantasy world ever.”

So hunting for food, fighting and building are all confirmed. Yep, it sounds like a survival game alright. Here’s its teaser trailer:

Conan Exiles will enter Early Access this summer.
