Apex Legends gets solo mode – but it’s temporary pending fan feedback

Solos are nearly here

Apex Legends has been focused on three-person squads ever since launch, but that’s about to change – temporarily, at least. A proper solo mode will hit alongside the upcoming Iron Crown Collection event on August 13. This appears to be the “fan-requested feature” that EA started teasing in its financial report last week. (Sadly, it’s not my most-requested feature, so Titans will have to wait.)

The Iron Crown Collection and Solos will both last until August 27, and you can get a brief teaser of what to expect on Twitter – though playing solo is pretty self-explanatory. On Reddit, Respawn community manager Jay Frechette says “We’ll talk more about Solos when it’s live and you’ve had a chance to play it. For now we’re going to put it out there and see what happens and what kind of feedback we get.”

That implies that even if Solos is currently temporary, it seems that Respawn is open to the possibility of eventually including it as a permanent game mode. All contingent, of course, on how players actually take to the release when it goes live.

In the meantime, you can head to Fortnite for your mech fix.

Apex Legends season 2 broadly seems to be working out better than the game’s previous seasonal content efforts, and it looks like Respawn’s got plenty of fresh stuff in mind. Limited time modes like Solos will hopefully provide a solid way for the studio to get feedback on potential new features.
