Assassin’s Creed 3 microtransactions will unlock items in multiplayer

Assassins Creed 3

Assassin’s Creed 3 will have microtransactions, we heard yesterday. Mention of something called ‘Erudito credits’ had emerged on console sales-places, but no details on how or where they might be used. It transpires that they’re a means to skip the grind of ACIII multiplayer’s CoD-style level progression, providing new tools in exchange for cash.

“The Erudito Credits are a new way of unlocking content in ACIII Multiplayer,” said Ubisoft in a statement picked up by RPS. “People who have little time can use Erudito Credits as a shortcut to unlock game items from level 1 to 50 (excluding Prestige levels and relics rewards).

“This is not mandatory, all items sold in Erudito Credits are also available in Abstergo Credits and can be unlocked through normal progression like previous years.”

In short: it’s a concession to the money-rich/time-poor. Seems reasonable enough to me – though that’s contingent on unlockable items being different, rather than better than their early level counterparts. What do you think?
