Bohemia devs imprisoned in Greece to be bailed and returned home; “This is the greatest news I could ever receive” – Dean Hall

Greek prime minister Antonis Samaras picked up the phone today to tell his Czech counterpart that Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar have been released on bail. The two Bohemia Interactive developers were arrested four months ago after photographing military installations on the Greek island of Lemnos, and have been imprisoned there ever since.

“Ivan and Martin have been bailed after 128 days!,” tweeted DayZ creator Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall an hour ago. “This is the greatest news I could ever receive! Can’t wait to see them.”

The absence of Buchta and Pelza saw Arma 3 delayed last month, and the strain showed in a press release at the time.

“We’ve been in the process of implementing changes that will help us innovate as a studio under unexpected circumstances – facing problems we simply couldn’t have imagined,” said new project lead Joris-Jan van ‘t Land.

“We’re still trying to make sense of the situation and hope that our colleagues will be released soon. Although their plight has certainly affected us on a personal level, we continue working on the tasks identified as key to the release of Arma 3.”

Buchta and Pelza had previously been refused bail on two occasions, but will now return home to the Czech Republic. The case is still ongoing, however, and the pair face a potential 20 years in prison. When court proceedings will resume is anyone’s guess, unfortunately, due to a Greek justice system strike.
