Borderlands 2 Season Pass apes Battlefield Premium

borderlands_2_season_pass

Gearbox have announced a DLC season pass as a way of buying all four of Borderland 2’s upcoming DLC packs for a slightly cheaper lump sum than if they were bought individually. Sounds somewhat similar to Battlefield 3’s Premium pack doesn’t it? It looks like EA may have started a trend with that one. Though Gearbox seem to have been a little less generous.

Details after the break.

$40. That’s what it would cost you to pick up the four planned DLC packs for Borderlands 2. $10 a piece. Or in the Queen’s tender, close to £6.50. So a bundle pack of the four for $30 sure is appealing, particularly as it was the DLC that was most flavoursome of the original Borderlands. Good deal, yes? Well, it depends how you cut your mustard. Buying yourself a Borderlands 2 Season Pass only grants you those DLC releases, not any of the launch content that’s locked away within the collector’s editons or the “Premiere Club” – which includes:theGearbox Gun Pack, a Golden Key, the Vault Hunter’s Relic and a fifth character class, the Mechromancer – for that you’d need to buy a copy of the game from participating retailers.

If we compare it to Battlefield 3 Premium (which is $20 more) you get all the DLC and early access to it, as well as a new knife, dog tags, video content, double XP weekends, and, most importantly, queue jump to multiplayer games. Now that last feature is a contentious issue, with some claiming it introduced a two-tier player system to the game, but we’re not going to get into it here, what’s important is you got a lot more than a $10 saving.

Still, asaving’s a saving.

Borderlands 2 is out on the 21st September.
