DayZ standalone screenshots reveal building interiors

Never before has a kitchen table so stirred the hearts of men. Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall has released the first screenshots of DayZ’s standalone version: interior shots taken in a Chernarus village, which “now has all its buildings enterable”.

“Please note these are work-in-progress shots, with only basic texture work and initial lighting passes,” said Hall. “I picked a random town in the game and took screenshots of a few of the houses.”

The screenshots – noticed by Videogamer – are taken at ‘Normal’ medium texture resolution in DayZ’s standalone engine. The engine is based on tech used for Bohemia’s recent flight sim and Arma spinoff Take On Helicopters.

“Our artists have been very busy, methodically going through all buildings in Chernarus and adding interiors,” continued Hall on the DayZ Tumblr. “The task can be pretty difficult when the [original building interiors] were not considered, so it can be a challenge for the artists to make the interiors both look correct and work properly.”

The team have been working on out-of-town settlements for the most part, but are now turning their attention to city interiors.

“This is complicated by our desire to dramatically increase performance, and given the scene complexity inside cities we need to balance this with the desire to increase building scavenging opportunities inside the cities,” added Hall in that confident NZ bark of his, a military man through and through and through – hmm, what? Oh, I was just remembering this DayZ Eurogamer Expo talk.

More screenshots from the team will be released in the coming weeks.

Here’s everything we know about DayZ standalone. But what about that kitchen table, eh?
