According to a report appearing in The Telegraph, which is said to be from a source close to HMV, the administrator Deloitte and new part owner of the chain Hilco plan on closing between 60 and 100 stores across the UK. This could mean job losses for more than 1,500 staff.
This follows last weeks terminations at HMV’s head office, seeing 190 people lose their jobs. The process of which was widely reported internally via the company’s Twitter account.
Deloitte and Hilco are said to be planning on reducing the retailer’s presence from 233 stores to between 120 and 160. The stores would not close immediately but stay open selling stock until they had cleared their shelves. At which point the shops would close and the leases sold.
Again, according to The Telegraph, one of HMV’s flagship stores in London is likely to close, either that on Oxford Street or at Piccadilly Circus, though which has not been confirmed.
