Star Citizen was “on track to break crowd funding records” until site crashed, says Roberts

In an email sent to Roberts Space Industries subscribers, the Wing Commander creator said he was “absolutely floored by the attention” that Star Citizen had achieved. “We currently stand at $455,590 raised from 4,564 pledges,” he continued, “Which is pretty impressive considering the outage we’ve had. Seems everyone wants the RSI Constellation and physical goodies!”

Cripes. According to the site, hat RSI Constellation is the reward for pledging $250. That’s not quite mega-backer level, but that’s quite the investment.

“Thirty hours later,we’re only just getting the core site back online,” Roberts said.
“The proper crowd funding page is still unfortunately down, but we have
a backup site that, while not having the full range of features we
intended, can take people’s pledges.” If you fancy taking to the stars, it’ll cost you as little as $30 to claim your spot in the game.

“We are listening to you on the forums, are committed to giving you
daily updates and will be rolling out some exciting new features in the
coming days that hopefully make up for our initial snafu,” Roberts also said. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.
