Free games: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Origins Discovery Tours are both free

Ubisoft's educational Assassin's Creed spin-offs are now free to everyone

May 21, 2020 Today’s your last chance to grab the Discovery Tours for free. Original story follows.

Looking for some free PC games that will help you learn something? Good news – Ubisoft is giving you that chance. The educational Discovery Tour modes for both Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Origins are now free to keep through the publisher’s Uplay store. The promotions only last for a limited time, so hop to it.

You can head to the Ubisoft giveaways page to claim both Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece and Discovery Tour: Ancient Egypt from now until May 21 at 11:00 EDT / 14:00 EDT / 19:00 BST. Once you’ve claimed the games, they will remain in your library forever, so you can partake in the history lessons whenever you want.

Both these Discovery Tours are standalone releases, so you don’t need to own Odyssey or Origins to play them. (Owners of the original games already have access to the Discovery Tours as an in-game mode.) Both educational modes use the world of their respective games to present a variety of tours through the historical setting, without the pressure of combat or quests to get in the way.

The Discovery Tours have been one of the coolest innovations of the recent Assassin’s Creed titles, and it’s good to see them get a chance to reach an even wider audience.

Just, uh… don’t expect historically accurate statues. That stuff’s too hot for kids. Check out our guide on the best educational games (which includes the Discovery Tours) for more examples of videogame learning experiences.
