Assassin’s Creed Unity’s Heist missions make you a thief as well as an assassin

Assassin's Creed Unity Heist mission

With a name like Unity, it’s not surprise that Ubisoft is pushing the co-op aspect of the latest Assassin’s Creed. The Brotherhood mode has already been shown off, so now it’s time to delve into the Heist mode.

Creative director Alex Amancio and an assassin chum slink through underground catacombs in order to steal some lovely Templar treasure in a new developer walkthrough. And it’s not at all clear why the entire mission can’t be completed solo.

There’s some cooperation going on, but it’s unnecessary. It’s a straightforward mission with guards typically offering their backs to assassins, and at no moment does it seem like it wouldn’t be possible to do the whole thing alone.

When the treasure itself is spotted, Amancio says that it’s time for strategy. But it isn’t. A smoke grenade – a series mainstay – is dropped and the guards are killed in seconds.

Procedural wizardry means that guards and treasure placement will be different on repeat playthroughs, and you’ll be expected to do that if you want to get the gold and other resources you’ll need to build up your character.
