The 2020 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) games awards are less than a month away, and the nominations have now been revealed. That means it's time to check out which games, studios, and other game industry creatives have scored a spot in one of the awards' 18 categories.
First up, the headline category - 'best game'. Some of the best PC games of the past year have made it into the mix, including Remedy's Control, which is probably unsurprising given the action-adventure game's enthusiastic reception from critics when it released August last year. Other nominees include Mobius Digital's beautiful Outer Wilds, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Untitled Goose Game (winner of 'game of the year' at the recent DICE awards), and Nintendo Switch exclusive Luigi's Mansion 3. Plus, RPG games get a look-in, with ZA/UM's excellent Disco Elysium on the list.
Control and Sekiro also make it into the 'technical achievement' category, alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Metro Exodus, A Plague Tale: Innocence, and Death Stranding - whose Steam PC launch date is set for June, by the way.
There are also plenty of nominations for Dontnod's Life is Strange 2 across the 'best narrative', 'performer in a leading role', 'performer in a supporting role', and 'game beyond entertainment' categories, while Destiny 2, Apex Legends, Fortnite, Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers, No Man's Sky, and Path of Exile are all in the mix for the 'evolving game' award.
