Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition Windows 8 version planned, but “Windows 8 on tablets is going to take some work”

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is due out two weeks today, but developers Overhaul Games are still “in the midst of sorting out” their plans for a Windows 8 version, according to studio head and project lead Trent Oster. Though “the tablet emulating a mouse is going to be hard to support well.”

Windows 8’s desktop UI is relatively traditional when it comes to mouse use, of course, but its touch UI tablet sibling is merely “faking a mouse”, tweeted Oster, and “the results are not good”.

“We’ve built an optimized touch based UI for Android and iPad and they play very well. [But] Windows 8 on tablets is going to take some work,” he continued.

“Windows 8 for touch has two routes, Pro and RT. RT will require a Direct X port. Pro is faking a mouse, so we’ll make a fake mouse touch UI.”

Nevertheless, says Oster, if Beamdog do a Direct X port of Baldur’s Gate for Windows 8, they’ll be using its owntouch UI.

Here’s everything we know about Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition. I think it’s going to be ace.
