Today’s entry in PCGamesN’s Battlefield V Unsung Heroes series trains its sights on the ranged recon class as they snipe their way through a Conquest match. The barren plains of North Africa prove an ideal hunting ground, rich with targets to catch in the cross-hairs. With its sweeping views and long sight-lines, no one is safe from the sniper’s steely glare. Watch the kills rack up and the tension mount in this gripping episode.
If you’re the type of player who prefers to go prone in front of a panorama before striking with surgical precision, the recon class is perfect. A glint of white light is all the enemy sees before the bullet hits – one in the head or two in the body is enough to do it. Plus, you’ve got more than a scoped rifle to rely on: use explosive disincentives like Bouncing Betty bombs to hold choke points, and spot foes through your telescope to feed teammates positional data.
You can customise the recon class further by picking one of two specialised combat roles. The sniper role lets you steady your aim longer by holding your breath, and scoring headshots replenishes the duration. Excelling as a sniper is all about hunkering down in a great spot and stringing together bulls-eyes to keep your scope nice and still.
The pathfinder combat role, meanwhile, enables you to spawn in on friendly squads other than your own. It also grants you additional requisition points when someone spawns at your personal spawn beacon. Try infiltrating enemy lines and dropping your beacon to open a quick route for teammates before stealing objectives from within. Where the sniper brings up the rear, the pathfinder is a front-line unit.

These are two very different ways to play the recon class, then, but if you lay low and steady your nerve, the other team won’t know what hit them.
The recon class is just one method of playing Battlefield V our other Unsung Heroes videos demonstrate many of the other approaches you can take in DICE’s fantastic new shooter.
