For the last few years, Battlefield has been in the FPS game wilderness. BF1 and Battlefield V continue to pull in players, but 2042 has been a mixed success, and the direction of the series has felt unclear. Personally, I miss the heyday of Bad Company and Battlefield 3, the two best games in EA Dice's entire shooter saga. But maybe Battlefield 6 can reset the narrative, as they say. Certainly, Dice needs to bring its A game - with Delta Force, Gray Zone Warfare, and, as always, CoD, vying for the multiplayer FPS throne, the new Battlefield needs to be very good. We've seen footage and gotten a few, sparing details, but if you want to try out the sequel for yourself, new Battlefield 6 playtest sign ups have suddenly just opened.
The Battlefield 6 release date is rumbling towards us, and from what we've learned so far, the new FPS game marks a return to the more-grounded, milsim pretensions of BF3 and Battlefield 4 (praise be). Extensive testing is still underway via EA Dice's own Battlefield Labs platform, and it's speculated that Battlefield 6 will be launched at some point before March 2026. However, if you sign up quickly, you can try it this coming weekend.
On Friday May 23, EA Dice will launch the new Battlefield 6 playtest. It will run for 72 hours and is designed to push the game's servers to the max, in order to help verify their stability. "This test will be invite-only and for a limited time," Dice says. "Our primary focus for this test will be to verify server performance and stability with increased player counts throughout a full weekend. During this time we will have a select group of maps and modes available for play."
Players in North American, Europe, and select areas of Asia will be able to access the Battlefield 6 server trial and if you're already signed up to EA Playtesting, you may have received an invite. However, everybody can still apply. Admission isn't guaranteed, but sign ups are open now.
The Battlefield 6 playtest begins at 3am PT / 6am ET / 10am CEST / 11am GMT and runs for 72 hours. You can sign up right here.
Otherwise, you might want to try some of the other best multiplayer games, or maybe get a look at the best upcoming PC games.
