The Game Critics Awards declare Final Fantasy 7 Remake the best game of E3 2019

Here are the best games of E3 2019 - including Final Fantasy 7 Remake

June 27, 2019 Here are the winners for the Best of E3 2019 Game Critics Awards.

After the nominees were announced earlier this week, we now have the winners of the Game Critics Awards for the Best of E3 2019. The big award this year went to a title that’s currently console-exclusive – bad times if you don’t have a PlayStation 4 – but there’s plenty of stuff to be excited about on PC.

Final Fantasy VII Remake beat Borderlands 3, Doom Eternal, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, The Outer Worlds, and Watch Dogs Legion to be named the best overall game on show at E3. (Still no reference to a PC release date, sorry.) PS4 garnered the most platform wins at 12, though PC titles earned the most nominations.

The best PC game of E3 2019 is, officially, Doom Eternal. id’s new demon-slaying simulator lost to Final Fantasy VII Remake in the overall category, but it beat out Borderlands 3, Control, The Outer Worlds, and Wolfenstein: Youngblood to be named the best computer game on show this year. (Yes, Doom Eternal is also coming to consoles, but come on – you’re going to want to play this one on mouse and keyboard.)

Doom Eternal was also named the best action game at the show. The Outer Worlds is named the best original game, Watch Dogs Legion is the best action/adventure, and the delightful murder-thinker John Wick Hex is the best strategy game.

Cyberpunk 2077 was awarded a special commendation for graphics, but it was not eligible for any other awards since press was not allowed hands-on time. That also means major titles like Dying Light 2 and the Avengers were not eligible for awards.

You can read the full list of winners at the official site. The games are chosen by a panel of 64 judging publications, including your friends here at PCGamesN. The Best of E3 2018 award went out to Resident Evil 2, so hopefully the final products turns out just as well for this year’s picks.
