Beyond Good and Evil 2 gameplay reveals Ganesha City

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Shani

Ubisoft showed more Beyond Good & Evil 2 gameplay footage today than we’d ever seen before, though we’re still left with just a taste of what to expect from the long-awaited sequel. The new footage shows off a bit of Ganesha City, on of the game’s most bustling locations.

Ganesha is a big city built around the sites of ancient temples and gardens, along with well-populated shopping districts. All that, of course, covers up a darker underworld filled with sketchy bars and less-than-savoury inhabitants.

We see the player character riding a flying speeder around the streets, with loads of traffic flying through the skylanes above. (Think Coruscant from the Star Wars prequels.) There’s some exploration of a hidden temple, followed by a quick cut to a player hopping in a fighter and launching out into the atmosphere.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 heads to the stars, but how will it stack up against the best space games on PC?

As Ubisoft have mentioned before, the focus is on seamlessly switching between gameplay types and action at different scales. To that end, we see a character in a jetpack flying around the city, before dropping to do combat with some guards on top of a flying skiff.

You can see the in-game footage at 6:00 in the presentation below.

It’s not much info just yet – check out everything we know about the setting, characters, and release date of Beyond Good and Evil 2 for some back-up detail – but it is a bigger taste than we’ve had before. There was also a cinematic trailer, showcasing life aboard the ship of Beyond Good and Evil 2, as well as announcing the return (arrival?) of Jade, the protagonist from the first game. Given that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is a prequel, rather than a sequel, the Jade that appears in the trailer is younger than the character we saw in the the first game.
