Bohemia’s becoming big in the news lately with the Early Access release of DayZ Standalone and Arma III. The folk at Humble Bundle are capitalising on this with a sale of Bohemia’s back catalogue, all the old Arma games and Take on Helicopters are included.
There are a couple of others you may not realise were made be Bohemia, too.
The Bundle will run till 23 January. You can pay what you want to receive:
Arma: Gold Edition
Arma II
Arma Tactics
Take on Helicopters
UFO: Afterlight
Alpha Prime
And, if you beat the average, you’ll receive:
Arma II: Operation Arrowhead
Arma II: DayZ Mod
Carrier Command: Gaea Mission
The Arma games are all extremely detailed military simulators. Though, I know no developer better than Bohemia at creating a control scheme that more resembles remote controlling a burning airship than a human. Learning to make your character run and command troop divisions at the same time will break your feeble human brain.
This bundle is definitely worth picking up if you’re tired of shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield. There’s really no better advert for the confused, logistical muddle that is war than Arma.
Take on Helicopters came a little out of leftfield. Bohemia turned their Arma engine to non-war purposes and made a helicopter flight simulator. I’ve not played much of it (my helicopter became a burning wreck within moments of booting the game up) but it reviewed well on release.
Carrier Command: Gaea Mission is awful and you should avoid it like the plague. I’d hoped it would be a modern equivalent of last decade’s Hostile Waters. A game which tasked you with invading a chain of islands with vehicles launched from your waterbound carrier. Despite an enticing premise and strong art style the game turned out bland and cumbersome to control. There’s still room for someone to do the original Carrier Command and Hostile Waters games justice.
If you want to pick up the bundle (it really is very good besides Carrier Command) head over to Humble Bundle.
