Borderlands 3’s launch trailer offers some major Marvel vibes

Borderlands 3 releases later this week, and reviews are expected to release later today. Hype for the series is at a five-year high. But sadly for Gearbox, someone appears to have jumped the gun somewhat, as the game’s launch trailer leaked a few hours ahead of schedule.

The trailer initially appeared over on the developer’s official Twitter account, before being taken down a few minutes later. This being the internet, however, the slip-up couldn’t be removed quick enough to prevent fans from acting – it was swiftly downloaded before being reuploaded to Reddit (via Gamesradar+).

The trailer (which you can check out for yourself further down this article), is an impressive collection of the series’ extended cast over the past three games. Set to Queen’s ‘Seven Seas of Rhye’, it opens to a broadcast by the evil Calypso Twins, but it’s not long before the latest round of Vault Hunters get in on the action. Early on, some trickery from Zane causes at least one Psycho a significant headache.

When is the Borderlands 3 release date?

The Borderlands 3 release date is Friday, September 13.

After that, Amara, Fl4k, and Moze all make their entrances, but the Calypso Twins are still causing problems. To help out, however, the entire Borderlands cast appears to be on hand, from the original Vault Hunters and their hangers-on to Tiny Tina, and, of course, Claptrap.

Unsurprisingly, with a rogues gallery like that involved, things get very high-octane, very quickly. With car chases and an awful lot of explosions. The final scenes are particularly fun, inspired as they appear to be by some of Marvel’s recent outings – Guardians of the Galaxy and Civil War both seem to get nods as the roster comes together.

The official version of the trailer is likely to come out later today, so keep your eyes open.
