Brutal Legend 2 could also become a reality if Psychonauts 2 succeeds

Brutal Legend

The world adores Psychonauts, and quite rightly so. Thus there’s no surprise that the recently announced Psychonauts 2 has already raked in $1 million over at its crowdfunding site. But there is another beloved, publisher-unfriendly game in Double Fine’s stable: Brutal Legend. If you’d love to see a sequel to the heavy metal universe game, then keep your fingers crossed that Psychonauts 2 hits the big time, because that’s all it may require.

In the crowdfunding Q&As, Double Fine addresses the issue: “We’ve always said that we wanted to make sequels to both Psychonauts and Brutal Legend,” wrote the developers. “We can’t make any promises but if Psychonauts is a success for us, then perhaps Brutal Legend 2 will be more possible?”

Brutal Legend is a brilliant in all the ways you expect from a Double Fine game: inventive, witty, a little bonkers. It’s also their most flawed, with the action-adventure template giving way about halfway through and replaced with an awkward set of sort-of RTS mechanics. If we could get a sequel, hopefully we could see a far more even attempt at the rock-and-roll influenced universe.

If Brutal Legend is absolutely not on your list of hopeful resurrections, perhaps you’ll enjoy Double Fine’s remaster of Full Throttle?

Thanks, VG247.
