Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s multiplayer starter pack is free to try this weekend

CoD Blops 3 free

With the news that a Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 multiplayer standalone would be appearing, we knew it was going to now be cheaper to just hop in and play CoD’s competitive modes without bothering with campaign if it wasn’t your bag. However, Activision and Treyarch wish to tempt us all by offering it completely free on Steam this weekend, the event having already started and running through until 9pm UTC / 1pm PST on Sunday.

Just want something to play without paying? Here’s the best free PC games money can’t buy.

Just pop on over to the BLOPS3 Steam pageto get access. It comes with the same limitations as the multiplayer-only pack, which means no access to any of these things:

  • Zombies, Campaign, Dead Ops Arcade II and Nightmare game modes
  • Ability to play in Multiplayer custom games
  • Prestige, meaning you’re level capped at 55
  • Ability to Fresh Start your profile

But it does have all the maps, modes, options and shooting people for kill streaks that you’ll want. Normally the pack is sold for $14.99 / £11.59 / €14.49, and having played a little of the multiplayer in beta, there’s a lot of fun to be had. It’s going to be pretty far from what you remember if you haven’t touched it since the Modern Warfare glory days, but just familiar enough that you’ll be nailing sweet headshots in no time.

If you find it takes your fancy, there’s a discount running on the full and deluxe versions of the game. The former gives access to campaign and all the rest and is currently 34% off, while the latter includes the DLC-giving season pass as well and is 20% off.

Thanks, PCG.
