Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is not only one of the best FPS games around – it turns out it’s the number one best-selling game of 2020 to-date.
That’s according to videogame industry analyst, Mat Piscatella, who has posted a series of screenshots of the NPD Group’s latest retail tracking service findings on Twitter, breaking down player spending on games, including both physical and digital sales. In one post, Piscatella reveals a list of the “YTD 2020 Top 20 Sellers”, explaining “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare becomes the best-selling game of the year, while Animal Crossing: New Horizons enters the chart at number two”.
The findings state that this result is made up of “physical and full game digital sales from the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation, Steam, and Xbox platforms for publishers in the digital leader panel” and is “ranked on dollar sales”. That puts it ahead of not only of the newly-released Switch exclusive Animal Crossing, but also some of the best PC games of recent years, like Grand Theft Auto V (which is still up in the top ten, in sixth place, nearly seven years after launch) and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (in at number ten).
The analyst also reveals Infinity Ward’s shooter, which released in September last year, was the second best-selling game of March 2020, and the top selling game of the last 12 months. Phwoar.

““Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was the second best-selling game of March 2020 and is now the best-selling game of 2020 year to date,” Piscatella says (via VentureBeat). “March sales of Call of Duty franchise titles reached a new all-time high for a March month, exceeding the previous peak set in March 2010”.
