Call of Duty: WW2’s supply drops aren’t pay-to-win

With news that Call of Duty: WW2 will include supply drops loaded up with collectable goodies, the next question on right-minded people’s lips is: ‘Will supply drops include stat-buffs?’.

If you can’t wait till Call of Duty: WW2’s release in November, here’s what we think are the best first-person shooters on PC.

It’s an important question to ask: if the players who can afford supply drops can net themselves stat-boosting items, then it becomes less a game about player skill and more about the size of their wallets. If a player with more cash is popping loot boxes every round to get access to higher damage or health then that’s quite the advantage.

Thankfully, according to Michael Condrey, co-founder of developer Sledgehammer Games, this will not be the case.

“All weapon variants and gear variants in Call of Duty: WWII supply drops are cosmetic only, so there are no stat-based variants in play,” Condrey says in a Reddit AMA. “We’re also offering players Collections and Collection Bounties, giving a direct path for our community to earn items through all modes of MP and Headquarters play.”

Of course, it may be the case that not all cosmetic items are available through those collections: some may only be found in loot boxes. But at least no one will have an advantage over other players.
