Anti-insurgent detergent: Soap MacTavish to return in Call of Duty: Ghosts, somehow

Remember that scene in Modern Warfare 2 when Soap pouted everybody to death? Brutal.

The improbably named Soap, lesser known as John, MacTavish was the protagonist of the Modern Warfare series – when the protagonist wasn’t some poor blighter about to be shot in the head in first-person so we could all share a big gasp.

He was forcibly retired at the close of the trilogy – but creators Infinity Ward have hinted at his return to active doody in upcoming DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts; which we didn’t like too much in our Call of Duty: Ghosts review.

Here’s the image not so subtly tweeted by the one-time Modern Warfare studio. That’s the Ghosts logo, you’ll notice:

Infinity Ward neglected to mention in precisely what form MacTavish might CONTINUE. It’s worth noting, however, that two Modern Warfare villains with names like machine guns have already been revived as Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer skins – Zakhaev as ‘micro DLC’, Makarov alongside themed weapon camo and reticle in the Legend Pack.

Given that, it doesn’t seem a stretch to imagine that Soap might be designated a Legend for his part in Modern Warfare’s screeching three-part international melodrama. He’ll likely be skinned and paraded about in multiplayer, like a waxwork.

Here’s the problem: other players will now be forced to witness his spare-carpet haircut and David Beckham frown – a view we were mostly spared looking out of his eyes in the MW trilogy.

Have you missed being Soap? Tell you what: I don’t miss being the guy dragged through the streets at the opening of MW1, nor the bloke in the airport. Blimey.

Thanks, VG247 and MP1st.
