The cash-guzzling black hole known as the Steam Autumn Sale has arrived

Steam Autumn Sale begins

Oh, bugger. Just as I was counting my pennies, content in the knowledge that every family member I tolerate is getting a half-decent Christmas present this year, Steam goes chucks petrol on my plans and lights a match. Yes, a Steam Sale is upon us, and it's autumnal one, despite winter knocking at the door. November 27 to December 3, that's how long you have to hold out for if you don't want to throw all of your money at Valve.

I have no idea how I'm going to manage it.

The inaugural Daily Deals offer a nice selection, including the surprisingly excellent undercover cop yarn, Sleeping Dogs and the truly terrifying horror survival title, Outlast. You'll save the most by picking up Telltale's The Walking Dead, which comes with five episodes, and a sixth if you shell out a couple of quid for 400 Days, also on sale.

Left 4 Dead 2: £3.74

Sleeping Dogs: £3.99

Outlast: £5.09

The Elder Scrolls 4: Skyrim: £3.74

Rogue Legacy: £4.07

The Walking Dead: £5.24

Antichamber: £3.74

Terraria: £1.49

Prison Architect (Early Access): £9.99

Nothing stands out in the 8 hour Flash Sale, though I've heard good things about Early Access title Castle Story. It's only been discounted by 33 percent, however.

I already own every game on offer other than the Flash Sale items, so I think I can relax today and not have to have a panic attack as I watch my rapidly draining bank account cry out in agony. How are you holding up?

Castle Story is in a playable state now. Worth a tenner if you were interested anyway, but otherwise maybe wait until there's more game (or less price).

Civ V: Brave New World is a steal at 50% off for anyone who enjoyed Civ, surely?

Is Space Hulk worth £7.81? I was waiting for it to come down to this kind of price.

Also not on the front page, but my horrible wish list tells me is on sale:

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs (-35%, £8.44) - Supposed to be a good FPS horror, in a different way to Outlast.

TrackMania Valley / Stadium (-50%, £7.99 / £3.99) - Everyone loves Trackmania, right?

Under the Ocean (-75%, £1.74) - Looked interesting on release, I didn't ever get round to it.

Gone Home (-50%, £7.49) - Critically acclaimed so could be worth looking up if you're curious. I might skip it for the next one given all the other things I want.

Metro: Last Light (-33%, £16.74) - Supposed to be good but I've enough to spend my money on here.

Wargame AirLand Battle (-66%, £13.59) - The original had loads of potential, but because this has such a high starting price it still can't justify my buying it right now.

Sid Meier's Air Patrol (-50%, £1.99) - Well worth this price for what is effectively the whole DLC package in the iPad version. Not too deep but a nice diversion.

And finally, Hotline Miami is £2.37. But you already own that of course.
