See Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 remade in Unreal 4 and played in VR

Red Alert 2

It’s just a proof of concept, but one developer has recreated some of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 in Unreal 4, and it’s playable in VR using the HTC Vive.

Looking down like a giant looming over the battlefield, or perhaps a strategic map in a war room of the future, you can use the Touch controllers to plonk down your units and issue orders. It looks slick, and perhaps bodes well for the genre in VR.

The footage, embedded above, comes from Ádám Horváth, a creator who’s doing some interesting things with augmented reality on his YouTube channel, including a virtual dressing room where people can try on clothes with minimal effort.

This VR remake usesmoddb user Sly_Fox‘s assets, which is acknowledged in the video description, along with a legal notice.

The original Red Alert 2 was released back in 2000 and is regarded as one of the best RTS games ever made.

Cheers, Eurogamer.
