Control could be getting Alan Wake-themed DLC

Control's AWE expansion drops next year, with some players noting the potential for an Alan Wake crossover

September 12, 2019 Remedy confirms new modes and two DLC updates for Control.

Control has only been out a short while, but developer Remedy is wasting no time in getting its DLC plans out in the open. In a blog post yesterday, game director Mikael Kasurinen and communications director Thomas Puha confirmed the existence of “two full, paid expansions” set to release in 2020.

Both expansions “will offer new story missions, enemies, and game mechanics, and take place in new locations within the Oldest House.” The first, The Foundation, delves into the house’s history, as Jesse investigates what lies beneath the Bureau.

The second expansion, AWE, introduces the Investigations Sector, in which the Bureau examines something called Altered World Events. As several fans have pointed out, however, AWE could also stand for Alan Wake Expansion. It’s perfectly possible that that’s just coincidental, but given the Alan Wake easter eggs throughout the game, the expansion could reveal new information about Remedy’s mysterious hero.

Elsewhere in the post, the developers confirm that a Photo Mode is in the works, and is set to arrive “later this fall” – despite some PC players already having figured out their own solution to that particular issue.

There’ll also be a new game mode, Expeditions. Due to arrive in December, Remedy describes it as “a challenging new end-game mode in which Jesse must help Security Chief Arish explore the mysterious Formation and its strange surroundings.” The developer suggests it’ll be Jesse’s toughest challenge yet, and confirms that it’ll be free for all players, although is yet to announce an exact release date.
