Control system requirements have changed, and they’re a lot friendlier now

The Control PC system requirements have been updated, and they're a lot less eyebrow-raising now.

Control is the eagerly-awaited next game from Alan Wake and Quantum Break developer Remedy, and it’s due out later this month – on August 27, in fact. The Control system requirements for the PC version of the game were previously released, thanks to the Epic Games Store – which the game is exclusive to on PC – and were rather terrifyingly high.

For example, the previous Control system requirements said that the game would require – as an astonishingly high minimum requirement – an Intel Core i5-7500 as a processor. Fortunately, Remedy have today posted a brand new set of minimum and recommended requirements for PC – and they’re a lot less eyebrow-raising.

The minimum processor requirement has now been lowered to an Intel Core i5-4690, for starters, and the previously high processor demand is now basically the Recommended requirement. The graphics card requirement has been drastically lowered too – from a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 to a GTX 780, although the trade-off is that this does not include raytracing.

The one thing that’s not specified in the new set of system requirements is the hard drive space required, which even the previous set of specs didn’t mention. When Quantum Break came out earlier this generation it required 68GB of hard drive space, so don’t expect Control to be any more lenient in that department.

Can you run it? Check the updated and latest Control system requirements 2021 on PCGameBenchmark.

Control minimum requirements
OS: Windows 7, 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 or AMD FX-4350
RAM: 8 GB System Memory
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 780 or AMD Radeon R9 280x
DIRECTX: DX11

Control recommended requirements
OS: Windows 10, 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i5-7600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600x
RAM: 16 GB System Memory
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660/1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580
FOR RAY-TRACING: NVIDIA RTX 2060
DIRECTX: DX11 / DX12

While you’ll be needing a pretty hefty system to get the most out of Control, especially in terms of ray-tracing, the minimum requirements are presumably now a lot more palatable for more people. Consider our eyebrows officially lowered. All of them.
