Control scores – our roundup of the critics

Here's what the critics have to say

Remedy’s latest science fiction mystery is upon us, and the verdict on Control is in. The short version? It’s good. Phil calls the game a “gripping descent into something between alternate history and fever dream” let down only slightly by its combat in our own Control review, and if you’re looking for second opinions, critics across the internet are similarly superlative.

Eurogamer says Control’s Oldest House is “one of the great locations of modern video games.” Destructoid calls the game a “weird, enigmatic, perplexing masterpiece.” USgamer says that it feels like Remedy “has reached its final form,” and Polygon says “this is one of the best games of the year.”

Not everyone is quite so superlative – many of the reviews note a frustrating late-game difficulty spike, and reviews from console-focused outlets in particular have noted some unfortunate technical issues. Still, Control has reached an impressive 84 on OpenCritic, and a similarly great 86 through Metacritic.
