Valve goes back in time to add the MP5 to CS:GO

The classic MP5 is coming to CS:GO, except this time it has a silencer

A new gun has been added to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and it’s bringing back all the memories. The MP5-SD, which has made an appearance in every single Counter-Strike game except the latest, finally joins the arsenal of the popular FPS today thanks to a new update.

The MP5-SD is part of Valve’s latest update, which also brings new changes to the new Panorama UI, and will be offered as an alternative to the MP7. The K&M submachine gun has always been popular with Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Source players due to its price, high rate of fire and low recoil, and while it may feel familiar to hardcore fans, this time it’ll come with a silencer.

“Often imitated but never equaled, the iconic MP5 is perhaps the most versatile and popular SMG in the world,” the Counter-Strike blog introducing the weapon says. “The SD variant comes equipped with an integrated silencer and features higher movement speed at the cost of some damage and accuracy on the move.”

If you can’t wait to try it out, the MP5-SD is only available on official casual and deathmatch servers, as well as offline.

It is, however, the first time that Valve has added a new gun to the game since the R8 Revolver in 2015, so it’ll be interesting to see what changes are going to be made to the MP5-SD over time. CS:GO’s submachine guns are notoriously cheap and powerful, making them a good option for early and force buys, so expect some tweaks before the gun is allowed on the competitive scene.
