Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies open beta begins today and rewards testers with free stuff

Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies

Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies seems a bit odd, not least due to the fact that the developer decided to insert its name into the title of the game. Korean developer Nexon has been a long-time collaborator with Valve, creating Counter-Strike Online in Asia. That’s not what this is, though. Instead, it’s classic Counter-Strike, but with new guns, modes and, of course, zombies.

And it’s free-to-play, with the open beta kicking off today.

For the duration of the beta, which ends on the 25th and 9am PDT, players can earn rewards just by logging in. Guns, medkits and the tools needed to craft weapons can be unlocked by logging in; once for the crafting stuff and every day during the beta for the other items.

There’s a cash shop, too, given that this is a F2P game. Nexon emphasises that guns cannot be purchased in the shop and need to be crafted using material gathered through play. However, these components can be purchased as well. It strikes me that buying the things necessary to craft weapons isn’t really that different from being able to buy them outright.

All the weapons from the original game are accessible from the start, though, and will always be in players’ inventories.

After the beta, all your progress will be wiped. But you won’t need to wait very long to get stuck in again, as the game launches next month.
