CDPR is recruiting for multiplayer devs

Earlier this year Cyberpunk 2077 quest designer Patrick Mills revealed that multiplayer for the game was “in R&D”, though it would be single-player at launch. However, it now looks like multiplayer’s on the way – developer CD Projekt Red has just announced that it’s officially in the works, and it’s recruiting for multiplayer dev work right now.

Tweets posted today by the studio say “until now, the only thing we said about multi was that it was in R&D. As we’re getting closer to launching ‘single player’ Cyberpunk 2077 in Apr. 2020, we’d like to confirm that multiplayer’s in the works!” The tweet links to the CDPR website, which currently has various roles advertised under the category of Multiplayer, like 3D character artists, a design director, a game designer, and more.

The second tweet adds, most excitingly for fans hoping to one day take on the dystopian world of Night City with their pals, an idea of when we might see multiplayer arrive: “the plan for now is to deliver Cyberpunk 2077 in April, then follow up with DLCs (free!) and single player content, and — once we’re done — invite you for some multiplayer action.”

While it appears that there’s no specific date for players to mark in their calendars for Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer just yet, this confirmation will surely be welcome to many given that it’s only been talked about in terms of “R&D” until now.

Another thing that’s uncertain is what the game’s multiplayer will be. Whether it’ll arrive as a full open-world multiplayer experience, set modes, or something else, we’ll have to wait and see.

The Cyberpunk 2077 release date is set for April 16, 2020.
