PC gamers can now play Demon’s Souls at 4K and 30fps

Demon's Souls

An update to one of the best PS3 emulators means that you can now play Demon’s Souls in 4K and 30 fps on PC. The RPCS3 emulator has just received a huge performance boost.

Dark Souls Remastered is a tough sell to PC players who can just mod the original.

In a video posted yesterday, the emulator’s creators (emucreators, if you will) say that “thanks to recent SPU recompiler improvements […] Demon’s Souls (and many other games of course) saw a massive boost in performance.” The video, which you can watch at the top of this article, shows the game “pretty much locked at 30fps at all times.”

While RPCS3 acknowledge that there are a few technical issues which might result in “the occasional badly paced frame,” they say that it’s a significant improvement on some of the original game’s busiest (and therefore laggiest) areas. Compared to some previous offerings, such as a work-in-progress video for a The Last of Us emulator, it’s a pretty impressive piece of work.

The change means you can now experience the horror of Demon Souls on PC better than ever before. That’s great news of course, but it’s even better if you’re looking for something to help you practice ahead of the release of Dark Souls Remastered, which comes out next month.
