Here’s when you can pre-load Destiny 2: Beyond Light on PC

Destiny 2: Beyond Light arrives next week, and here's when you'll be able to download the update

Destiny 2‘s long-awaited Beyond Light expansion is due for arrival November 10, and it’ll be a sizable download when the content becomes available. Fortunately, Bungie has arranged for us all to pre-load the update ahead of time. Here’s when you’ll be able to start that process on PC.

There are a couple things to bear in mind ahead of time. First, Beyond Light will mark the beginning of Destiny 2’s ‘vaulted content’ process, which means that a significant chunk of the multiplayer game’s existing content is going into cold storage when the expansion arrives. Bungie has said that’s to make sure Destiny 2’s install footprint stays reasonable, but you’re still going to need to have some space set aside if you want to pre-load.

Specifically, you’re going to want a total of 186.2 GB of space to devote to Destiny 2. That’s the total amount, mind you: the existing install size of up to 116.5 GB plus the 69.7 GB update. Once the update is installed, that total figure will shrink back down a bit.

Beyond Light will arrive in the form of Update 3.0.0.1, and the patching process will begin November 9, according to the latest This Week at Bungie post. At 23:30 UTC, Bungie will begin background maintenance. Then at midnight UTC on November 10, players will be booted out of activities and required to download a small update, and will then be able to log back into Destiny 2.

Sign-ins for Destiny 2 will be disabled at 2:50 UTC that morning, and at 3:00 Destiny 2 will be taken offline. You’ll be able to log back in at 9:00 PST / 12:00 EST / 17:00 UTC, at which point Beyond Light will be available to play. Maintenance will wrap up three hours later.

On PC, you’ll be able to start downloading the update shortly after Destiny 2 is taken offline during the server-side updating process, at 19:00 PST / 21:00 EST on November 9 or 3:00 UTC November 10. The update should automatically show up in your Steam download queue, so you’ll just need to click the arrow button to begin the download if it doesn’t start on its own.
