You can’t be a live videogame without seasonal events, and Destiny 2 is cracking out the fairy lights and snow for The Dawning; Bungie’s winter holiday. It is live on servers now, and runs until January 9. During the period there is new gear to unlock, milestones to achieve, and a variety of Christmassy activities to do both in the newly decorated Tower and the solar system at large. Destiny 2 The Dawning 2017: how to participate
The Dawning is available now, and will conclude January 9 at the weekly reset. To participate, you need to have completed the Red War campaign and hit the level cap of 20. This will ensure that you are able to visit the Tower – home of the wintery event – and complete the new Milestones.
Destiny 2 The Dawning Milestones
The event features three new Milestones, split across a new Dawning quest, a weekly activity, and a daily activity.
- Welcome to the Dawning
Upon first logging in with each character for The Dawning, players will be greeted with the “Welcome to the Dawning” introductory Milestone. This Milestone may only be completed once per character for the entirety of The Dawning Live Event, and requires Tower access in order to be completed. - Spreading Holiday Cheer
Upon completing the “Welcome to the Dawning” Milestone on each character, players will be directed to complete the “Spreading Holiday Cheer” Milestone. This Milestone may be completed once per week, per character, for rewards. - Today’s Gift
Every day during The Dawning, players may complete the “Today’s Gift” Milestone. This Milestone has players gather resources to make gifts for NPCs across the Solar System. This Milestone may be completed once per day, per character, and requires Tower access in order to be completed.
Destiny 2 The Dawning armour
The special Dawning legendary armour can be found in bright engrams sold by Tess at the Eververse Store. As with everything from Eververse, they are cosmetics that must be infused with other armour items in order to be made useful. Bungie have said that all armour pieces will be sold over the event, and that starts with the chest peice which can be bought for an eye-watering 1200 Bright Dust. Destiny 2 The Dawning shaders
There are four festive shaders to pick up this year: Dawning Hope, Dawning Festiveness, Dawning Brilliance, and Dawning Warmth. These can be picked up from Eververse Bright Engrams, or as rewards for completing activities.
Destiny 2 The Dawning loot
Aside from that very fancy armour, there are a variety of lovely cosmetics up for grabs at Eververse. Largely these are re-skins of the ships, Sparrows, and Ghosts that arrived with the Curse of Osiris expansion, but there are a few very pretty examples such as the striking Cerulean Flash exotic ship, and the Winter Lotus Shell. There’s also a festive Giving emote, which produces a ribbon-wrapped gift in Destiny 2’s neon lights style.
Destiny 2 The Dawning PvP Mayhem
Mayhem returns to the Crucible playlist for The Dawning. The mode is largely Destiny 2 PvP as usual, but with accelerated ability cooldowns and inflated point counts for fast-paced, unpredictable action.
