Destiny 2: Forsaken is at last upon us, marking the start of year two for Bungie’s loot shooter. Now that everyone’s all had a week to dig in, the reviews are trickling out. Forsaken has a lot to live up to, with fans desperate for more and better content, and The Taken King coming in at a similar spot in the original game’s life to make a dramatic reversal of fortunes.
So is Forsaken another Taken King? In our review, Destiny expert Rich says “No. It’s better.” This expansion “vastly improves the quality, quantity, and structure of content in Destiny 2,” and though it’s a pricey prospect for lapsed players to get in, this update has gotten Destiny to the best form it has yet reached.
Broadly, it seems we’re in agreement with the critical consensus. Our review awards Forsaken an 8/10, right in line with OpenCritic’s aggregate of 83. (Metacritic, which splits reviews across platforms, hasn’t yet pulled in enough scores for a reliable metric on any one version.) There’s big praise for the darker story, and a general air of positivity around everything that’s come in with the update, though we’re all still waiting to see how things play out long-term, especially as the raid has yet to launch.
