Destiny 2 is going to have a new home on PC for the launch of Shadowkeep and the free-to-play rebranding of the base game as New Light, and all the content that’s build up over the years is going to make for a substantial download. Luckily, Bungie is giving players a similarly substantial head start on the install ahead of the Shadowkeep release date.

Pre-loads for Destiny 2 are now live on Steam – and if you haven’t checked the Battle.net version of the game files in a while, you should know that the download is up to a whopping 79.1GB. The pre-load covers everything, so whether you plan to buy Shadowkeep or just dip your toe into the new free-to-play launch, you’re covered.

You won’t actually be able to play Destiny 2 on Steam until October 1, so Battle.net is still the game’s home for the next week – just make sure you’ve got your cross-save business handled, as Destiny 2 will be removed from the Blizzard launcher following a 24 hour maintenance period starting on September 30.

The release of Shadowkeep promises a big array of changes for Bungie’s MMOFPS, and they’re almost too numerous to list. One big adjustment we’re just getting our heads around is the matchmaking change that should help alleviate your matches against account recovery players.

October 1 is going to be a big, big day for Destiny 2, so if you’re coming along don’t miss your chance for a head start.
