There won’t be any random weapon or armour perks in Destiny 2

Those of you who played Destiny will know about the random mess of perk-filled guns that dominated endgame loot grinding. Rather than going for one rare weapon, you’d often be trying to get the same weapon over and over again to get the best perks.

To those of you that didn’t play it: it sounds like an unbalanceable mess, doesn’t it? Well, in an interview, game director Luke Smith has confirmed that there’s no random rolls on weapons and armour in Destiny 2.

Need a different lootfest? Maybe our list of the best MMORPGs has something for you.

This comes from an interview with Mashable, where Smith confirmed that with any weapons, “what it has on it is what it has on it. Period.” Each weapon will have very specific stats, making everything much easier to balance across the board.

While Destiny 2 should be better balanced as a result of this, it raises the question of how fun loot grinding will be, and what’s the weapon diversity going to be like? Smith didn’t have a definite answer for that, unfortunately.

“We have ideas. While I would like nothing more than to share those ideas with you, we’re up against [a deadline]. I don’t know if they’ll make it for our Sept. 6 [release] date. But we have some ideas that we’re pretty excited about.”

Will they make it for the PC release? Hopefully! Will it be a good idea? We damn well hope so.

Cheers, PC Gamer.
