With Reaper of Souls almost three months away from release you might think Blizzard are getting a little ahead of themselves letting folk download the expansions content this month. But what are Blizzard if not the company who always releases things early…right?
The preload will hopefully alleviate some of the strain on their servers when it comes to release day on 25 March.
Answering questions on the Diablo forums, community manager Stephany Johnson said “The exact date that the predownload will start is still TBD, but we’re targeting this month if all goes well. Note: this download will begin automatically (meaning, you shouldn’t need to do anything special).”
If you don’t predownload the content you copy of Diablo 3 will update with all the relevant gubbins with the release of the pre-expansion patch. “So, for players who don’t predownload, they’ll basically get everything that’s available whenever they patch up to 2.0.1.”
Some of that content won’t be released in that patch, though. “Expansion-only content like the Crusader, Act V, and Adventure Mode won’t be playable until March 25th and only players who purchase Reaper of Souls will have access to them.”
Nick’s been getting hot and heavy with the Hell-set expansion pack for over a month now. You can read his thoughts on the thing, too.
