Medieval roguelike Dicealot is coming soon, and it could be your new Balatro

Inspired by the likes of Balatro and Slay the Spire, Dicealot’s high-stakes rolling and do-or-die combat will leave you desperate for more.

Some of the best games are the ones you play with your family at Christmastime or with your pals in the pub. There's something so satisfying about winning at dominoes or crushing your friends at poker when they were sure they'd come out on top. Recently, we've seen everything from chess to arcade coin pushers transformed into compelling single-player roguelike games. The upcoming Dicealot takes the principles of Farkle and reimagines them in virtual form, setting you on a quest to save Camelot with just your wits, dice, and a few dusty weapons.

Developer goodviewgames and publisher Yogscast Games' Dicealot takes the dice-based party game to a new level. You might be familiar with Farkle if you've played either of Warhorse's Kingdom Come Deliverance games. It's an outwardly simple game of luck with an exciting risk/reward element. The goal here is to be the first to reach or surpass 10,000 points by rolling dice combos. Much like Balatro, it's all about experimentation, but you'll also have to decide whether to cash in your winnings or continue rolling and run the risk of losing it all. If you score three threes, for instance, you can take your 300 points and close out your round, or continue on in the hopes of rolling another combo. Do so and you'll increase your points, but if you fail, you'll 'Farkle' and forfeit your points.

You'll make your way through Camelot, throwing dice and taking names, upgrading your kit as you go. You can upgrade your dice to improve your scores and increase your chances of landing a full hand, which deals massive damage. There is a whole slew of options, but you only get one opportunity to visit the shop between fights, so make sure you choose carefully to maximize your chances of success.

As you explore Camelot, you'll acquire an arsenal of new weapons, but matching them to your dice loadout is integral to your success. If you're confident in your ability to constantly generate high scores, choose something that deals a lot of damage to one-shot your opponents. Or, if you're a little more cautious, go with something good at chipping down health bars. There are ten weapons on offer and over 30 foes to vanquish, so variety isn't an issue here.

With seven levels to play through, a cast of lovable characters (even if most of them are trying to kill you), and a whole lot of replayability, you can dive into the medieval adventure very soon. The Dicealot release date is set for Thursday, October 9, and there's a demo on Steam with your name on it. You can check it out right here and add it to your wishlist ahead of launch.
