Jungling in the moonlight: Dota 2 gets weather and live rewind in post-Compendium update

The creatures in the Dota 2 Compendium burst forth.

When is an infinitely-large pot full? When it’s 10 million dollars deep, apparently. Valve have declared the Dota 2 International prize pool to be ‘overflowing’, and implemented some of its stretch rewards in-game.

The Dota 2 Overflowing Compendium update reads like the morning after a drunken auction. Welcome new environmental effects designed to soak the game’s map in rain, snow or moonlight. Say hello to special emoticons for use in Dota 2 chat. And somebody put down a mat for the “cute yet still-revolting” Pudgling courier, bundled with an “extra smelly” alternate skin for level 50 Compendium owners.

All three were unlocked at various points over the last month or so of Dota 2 Compendium sales, but it’s not too late to join in. Purchase a Compendium now are you’ll gain access to all present and future rewards, which include couriers, immortal items, stat tracking, and an unusual taunt for the as-yet-unreleased Techies hero.

Not part of Valve’s Compendium promise but just as worthy of a place in the update is the Live Rewind feature. Players watching live matches can now pause, rewind and hop about the game’s timeline as they please.

What do you imagine you’ll make most use of in the run-up to the International finals?
