Fallout 4 surpasses Skyrim to be crowned as Bethesda’s most successful game

Fallout 4 has overtaken Skyrim, becoming Bethesda’s most successful game ever. In three years on sale, Skyrim sold 20 million copies, between 2011-2014. Meanwhile, Fallout 4 shipped 12 million copies on its launch day, but Bethesda haven’t released sales figures since.

Skyrim is still ahead on the mod front though, so why not check out our list of the best Skyrim mods

The news that Fallout has surpassed Skyrim comes via the Kinda Funny Gamescast, in which Bethesda marketing man Pete Hines said, "Fallout 4 has gotta be the most successful game we've ever launched in our company's history. More than Skyrim, in terms of what we did."

“What we did” was later clarified on Twitter.

Judged over the same period of time, Fallout 4 has outperformed Bethesda’s snowy RPG, then. It's no small feat, considering how massive Skyrim was at release.

Thanks, GameSpot.

This surprises me ALMOST as much as water turning to ice below 0 degrees Celsius.

There are more gamers now than when Skyrim was released and keeps increasing.

Their next Elder Scrolls or Fallout game (whichever comes first) will sell even more. You heard it here first folks.

I must be old fossil now closing to mid thirties that don't understand what gamers want. I mean to me Fallout 4 was even worse than Skyrim which itself already was rather bad. I gave up on Fallout 4 after 30 hours of clearing locations and running to empty my inventory to base and repeating while nothing interesting happened.

Yeah, it's not a good RPG, not a good building/crafting survival game, not a good shooter, doesn't have a good story, it's mediocre at everyting.

I have no idea why is it so successful.

But I REALLY do enjoy it when 15 year olds talk shit about the original games, because they were "boring, and ugly"...
