Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is an ‘80s sci-fi FPS with a release date and everything

Of all this year’s PC-related April Fools’ nonsense, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was surely the most elaborate and far-fetched. Quelle surprise, then, to discover it’s no fool at all, but rather a very real standalone shooter set in an immediately dated 2007 sci-fi world – an “‘80s VHS vision of the future”.

Blood Dragon will be found on digital distribution services from May 1, a listing on Xbox.com has revealed, and feature the dulcet, if shouty, tones of one Michael Biehn – him off of Terminator and Aliens.

Biehn will almost certainly play protagonist Sergeant Rex Colt, who must defeat a rogue cyborg army with the use of only one of his eyes. Though I suspect he’ll prove to be a crack shot nonetheless as he carries out his orders: “get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the [nuke-ravaged] world”.

A teaser went live on a dubious promo site just last week. You’ll be wanting to see it, I imagine:

It’s almost a relief simply to see Ubisoft mega-studio Montreal working on something small and silly for a change. But are you sold on Blood Dragon’s pulp?

Thanks, Eurogamer.
