When is the FNAF Secret of the Mimic release date? Five Nights at Freddy’s is one of the most well-known and well-loved horror game series of all time, and it just keeps on coming. There are mainline games, spinoff games, toys, VR games, and a movie series now, and, almost ten years to the day since the franchise’s debut, another official spin off horror game has been announced.
Secret of the Mimic is an officially licensed FNAF game coming from Steel Wool studios, who previously released Security Breach and VR game Help Wanted. The latest installment in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series is presumably entirely cannon like previous Steel Wool games, but is set to deep dive into a different set of characters. We look forward to the release date of the horror game and speculate what we think might happen next in the Fazbear universe.
Secret of the Mimic release date estimate
Five Nights at Freddy’s Secret of the Mimic is confirmed for a 2025 release date. While we don’t know any more than this, we think we could be looking at a Q3 release due to Steel Wool’s habit of previously releasing games in the latter half of the year.
A 2025 release date is fairly soon for a game that has only recently been announced, suggesting that the team have confidence in what they’ve got so far. If no changes are made to this projected release, we’re looking at 18 months tops, which isn’t a long time in game development world. With that in mind, we think a Q3 or Q4 release is most realistic.
Developer Steel Wool hasn’t been working on, or at least hasn’t announced, another full project in a while. Their last full release was Help Wanted 2 in 2023, before which they released Security Breach in 2022. With no new game in 2024 and a history of release dates in the second half of the year, it would make sense that Steel Wool are pushing to stick to their 2025 target, perhaps in Q3 with a bit of room to push back to November or December if necessary.
Whenever the release date is set for FNAF Secret of the Mimic, we can’t wait to see what it brings given Steel Wool’s history with the franchise already. Help Wanted, its sequel, and Security Breach all under their belt already, they know – and can be trusted with – the beloved horror franchise.
Secret of the Mimic trailers
There is only one trailer so far, and that is just the short and cryptic reveal trailer, released on August 6, 2024, just ahead of the 10th anniversary of the series. This video was the first teaser of the game, and shows a music box that slowly opens to reveal the eyes and nose of a clown-like character. However, there’s plenty we can glean from this already.
While the character shown is currently unknown in the franchise, we do know about the titular Mimic from both Tales from the Pizzaplex and, more recently, the Security Breach Ruin DLC. Whether the character in the trailer is the Mimic or not we don’t know, as this doesn’t match his existing appearance, but The Mimic has been known to change its appearance and, of course, mimic the actions and sounds of others.
The important thing to note here is that the music playing over this trailer is recognizable to fans of the series as that which plays from The Puppet’s music box in FNAF 2, suggesting that the mysterious FNAF 2 character also plays a part somehow.
How The Puppet is incorporated in this new game remains unknown, but an official caption accompanying the trailer on the Steel Wool X (previously known as Twitter) profile reads: “To see the future, sometimes you need to understand the past.” This hints that at least part of Secret of the Mimic is a prequel, or perhaps its timeline splits and this is the Mimic’s most recent form. Either way, Secret of the Mimic may answer age-old questions about The Puppet and the Mimic. Could The Mimic even be The Puppet? We’ll just have to wait and see.
While that’s all we know about the FNAF Secret of the Mimic release date so far, there’s surely more to come in the next few months. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear anything, but you can check out the rest of the single-player game series in the meantime, or take a look at some other upcoming PC games coming out sooner.
